Redpack celebrate award of environmental management accreditation

Redpack Packaging Machinery are delighted to have been accredited with ISO 14001: 2015 Environmental Management System.

This accolade represents a key moment as the organisation has been working diligently towards this for many years as they are committed to doing more with less by creating high-performing, efficient machines and technologies that use fewer resources.

As they are in the business of manufacturing flow wrap machines predominantly, Redpack Packaging Machinery know they must address the environmental impacts of their products and operations and support suppliers to do the same. Recently, Redpack have moved their manufacturing capability to check weighers, metal detectors, x-ray machines and tray sealers.

Redpack are constantly looking to improve our impact on the environment and their current environmental commitments include the following:

  • Monitor and reduce the environmental impacts of operations and products, in areas including but not limited to energy use, water consumption and waste.
  • Source materials and services locally to reduce carbon footprint and CO2 emissions.
  • Reduce primary material usage through the reduction, recovery, and reuse of resources.
  • Improve resource efficiency, targeting waste and pollution, including further adoption of renewable energy supplies.
  • Ensure that employees have a level of knowledge and understanding appropriate to their responsibilities and are aware of actions they can take to reduce their impacts.
  • Design and build flow pack machines that can be maintained, repaired, and upgraded extending their useful life and enhancing their reuse value.
  • Complete an annual review of our environmental policy and waste levels.

Recently Redpack have increased the fleet of electric vehicles and targeted 2026 to have electric vehicles in all areas, company vehicles, sales team, and service vehicles.

Additionally, they have segregated all waste streams to improve recycling and reusing. All staff have been issued with reusable water bottles to enable the removal of all plastic cups to take place. Their service provider has zero waste to landfill to further reduce environmental impact.

Most impressively, in constant pursuit of our sustainability goals, and further reducing their carbon footprint, Redpack have recently commissioned a significant solar PV installation at their UK manufacturing site in Bowthorpe, Norwich.

This means they are actually reducing the amount of grid energy consumed and the system is expected to save sixty-seven tonnes of carbon each year, equivalent to over 2,000 trees per year*.

The facts and data behind the above statement are:

  • A conservative figure for carbon offsetting from trees in the UK is 30 kg / tree per year
  • The installation is expected to save 67,207 kg / year of CO2 (Carbon) therefore 67,000 / 30 = 2,233, so in 1 year it would take 2,233 trees to consume 67 tonnes of carbon

General Manager Gary Howard added “I am extremely proud to announce that Redpack have achieved ISO 14001 certification. This accomplishment represents a significant milestone in our commitment to environmental sustainability and demonstrates our dedication to reducing our ecological footprint.”

“This achievement would not have been possible without the collective efforts and dedication of our entire team. Each member has played a vital role in implementing and maintaining the necessary procedures, practices, and policies to meet the stringent requirements of ISO 14001. I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone involved for their hard work, collaboration, and commitment to excellence.”

“As we move forward, we will build upon this achievement and continue to integrate environmental sustainability into every aspect of our business. We will remain proactive in identifying and implementing innovative solutions to further reduce our environmental footprint. Our journey towards a greener future is ongoing, and we are committed to remaining at the forefront of environmental best practices.”

Gary Howard concluded “Once again, I am incredibly proud of our achievement in attaining ISO 14001 certification. It is a testament to our organisation’s values, dedication, and unwavering commitment to environmental responsibility. Together, we will continue to make a positive impact and contribute to a more sustainable world.”
